Grocery Shopping

I believe grocery shopping is one of the easiest ways to cut the family spending and to save money.

I choose to shop at ALDI for most of my groceries, as having less choice, means spending less money.  I just go to Coles for the few items I know I can’t get in ALDI.

Keep your supermarket dockets each week for a month and then work out your average weekly spending.  Try to improve on this figure the following month.

Use the unit pricing scheme at the supermarket to compare items and get the best price.

Here are a few more ideas:

·         Buy a 1kg carton of yoghurt and divide into smaller containers such as snack cups for individual serves

·         Buy tomato and barbeque sauce in bulk bottles, and then just refill your smaller bottles

·         Make homemade jelly in snack cups, as individual serves

·         Buy large packets of chips and divide into sandwich bags for individual serves.

I try to remember that shopping isn’t a” hobby”, it’s a job that needs doing for the needs in your life and sometimes a few wants.  You will find you can spend a heap of money if you just go to the shops for something to do, or just for a look around.  Instead you could go for a walk to the local park, walk your dog, visit a beach and all these activities are FREE!
